Goals For Blogging

While the site itself has been up and running for quite a while now, I have really only been blogging the last week or so. Writing is one of my favorite hobbies (besides reading), and I have been wanting to create my own little space to expand on that hobby. That’s the overall reason as to why this blog was started. The reason why I haven’t been consistent with blogging since the site was set up is because I have been struggling in decided what my niche was. While I still don’t really have a main goal for the blog, I at least finally know what I want to talk about.

Whenever anyone wants to start a blog, I’ve read that the person needs to have a goal for the blog, and a niche for the blog. Something they are good at that they want to talk about. We all have our own talents or hobbies of things we like. While others may be crafting and making stuff, for some it may be reading and writing. Like me. I fall into the latter category. I may not talk so much about writing, but I will definitely be talking about books. I don’t necessarily read as much as I used to anymore, but I want to start updating my bookshelf a little bit so I’m hoping to find some good books. My favorite authors have always been C.S. Lewis and Frank Peretti. For those who don’t know who Frank E. Peretti is, he is a Christian author known for writing Hangman’s Curse. For those who still don’t know, it was turned into a movie back in 2003 and had Leighton Meester in it, as well as Douglas Smith.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: If you have a favorite book or an author/book you would recommend, who or what would it be?

Something else I find interesting is history and politics, so this will also contain an opinion column. Something I remember doing back in high school is something called current event. Its where we would take a news article, read it, and write a little summary on it. That’s sort of what I will do here as I get started, but it might develop, hopefully, into something more later on in the future (meaning I’m hoping to be a journalist). I honestly don’t really know why, but history/politics has always been something I am really good at. It was my favorite subject while in school.

So if anything related to life, books, travel or politics grab your interest then this is the blog for you. I’m not sure how much travel posts I will be doing considering I don’t do much traveling as it is, but I’m hoping that changes in the near future as well. Anyway, just until I get into blogging a bit more, I am not going to promise anything on a blogging schedule, but I will promise to blog on a regular basis.

What was it like for you when you first started blogging? Was it difficult to find a niche to talk about?

  1. I’m also a fairly new blogger, and I understand the struggle of trying to find a niche. Right now I’m still kind of floating, though I mostly write about art and writing. I’m looking forward to reading more from you! 🙂

  2. I actually revamped my blog recently and moved it to a different URL (still wordpress though, until I’m more consistent). It feels like starting over though. And I’m almost exited that your blog is starting too because it’s like our blogs can be like toddlers on a playground and grow together. LOL. It’s a scary thing blogging and it helps to feel that your not the only one starting a new.

I started my blog as a Media Studies assignment during university. We had to do the current events things and I realized I like the blogging thing. But after I graduated I didn’t write much because I don’t really like the news so…. Eventually, I started writing poetry and short devotional thoughts and people liked the poetry so my blog grew. Now I want to publish poetry but all my good stuff is on the blog so I can’t submit any of that. That’s when I started blogging about books. 11 month ago to be exact. It’s birthday month next soon :). Finding a niche wasn’t easy but now I have my thing. Books. I’ve rebranded so often I can’t count. But I have a look and feel that I’m happy with.

  3. I have my blog for 1,5 year now and I only started to find what things I want to write about a few months ago. At first I wrote about really personal stuff, then It was mainly film and series reviews but I realised it was not reall my jam…. :DIt is still really mixed, but I feel like it is a bit more put together. so yeah, I know the struggle.
